OVERCOMING BY THE HOLY SPIRIT IN US

1 John 4:4

"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." NIV

"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." KJV

One of the many things this world will be sure to throw in our paths is tribulation. As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit living within us. The same Holy Spirit whose power brought Jesus Christ out of the tomb of death. We are overcomers. Just because situations around us change, Jesus Christ never changes. As overcomers we can stand strong in the face of adversity, temptations, and persecution without giving up. Overcoming is a daily exercise of faith in which we seek the grace and mercy of God to help us stand strong. The power of the Holy Spirit within us is so much greater than any difficulty this world can bring our way.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for taking our eyes off of You and not giving the Holy Spirit freedom to make us overcomers in this world. The difficulties look large and it seems we will be swallowed up with suffering and loss. Help us to remember that those difficulties have no chance of destroying the eternal life and victory Jesus Christ already gave us at the Cross. In His name we pray, Amen.
